I came to the second trilogy
of Raven books after the disappointment, only slight dissapointment,
of NightChild to be presented with one of the best books I
have ever ready. The emmotional side of the Raven remained
yet more action in the style of Noonshade made this classic.
The storyline twisted through to a conclusion
that made me want to read on. The rushed ending of Noonshade
and slow start of Nightchild werent there at all and the whole
experiance felt beautifully paced. The rising tencion and
sense of doom coupled with large amounts of death made the
story all that more believable, in war there are casualties
and here was no exception.
I think the area that will draw many in
is the section on Calaius. The mysticism and beauty of the
rainforest captured me. But more than that, the people destroying
it felt honourable too. I love the long sections on Yron and
Ben's escape and the way the elves care so much for their
home. Maybe something even we could learn. The coming of war
also made this book unputdownable, the action never seemed
to stop and I found myself reading faster and faster.
Elfsorrow is by far the best Raven book
so far in my opinion. It has the drama, heartache and story.
In fact it shocked me a few times. I really cant recommend
this book hightly enough. And the knowledege that it runs
straight into ShadowHeart gives the feeling that that too
will be brilliant. And this blew away my only problem with
the book, it ended. Another 400 plus pages of the same would
go down very well indeed.
